What are the most expensive things when planning a wedding?
Outside of a venue, the top largest investments during the planning process are:
- Wedding Planner – if you choose to use one (we have a list of amazing ones we love that we’ll give you when you book; and they really do make life so much better!)
- Photo + Video Coverage
- DJ (yup, they control the atmosphere of the reception)
- Food
Why is wedding photography so freakin' expensive?
THIS IS A HOT BUTTON QUESTION! One we are not afraid to talk about.
There are 2 big things that influence this:
- It’s an investment. The photographs of your wedding are the beginning of your documented legacy. We pass photographs on to generations well past our own. Photographs prevent memories from fading. You can’t redo your wedding, so you want to ensure you are hiring someone that will not miss the important parts and show you the fun things you might have missed on your wedding day. Photographs are one of the few things that increase in value over time.
- Wedding photography seems like easy money — work one day and rake in the cash, right? But most full-time wedding photographers I know carry over $20,000 worth of wedding gear and often work 60-hour weeks. (Remember those 300 images from the previous question? Depending on skill/experience level, it can take between 40-60 hours per wedding to edit.) When you total up insurance, taxes, software, advertising, albums, maintenance, shipping, and studio expenses, many photographers end up making less than minimum wage for the first few years in the business.
Do I need a second shooter?
- Having a second shooter provides imgages from a different angle, so your wedding is covered from many creative perspectives
- It allows you to potentlly book less hours since there are two people there to do one job!
- is is a perfect way to insure incase of emergency, illness, or injury on the job (or to the job, sadly this happens) that your wedding will still be documented and go off without a hitch!
Most of our full weddings with 6 hours or more of coverage come with a complimentary second shooter!
We are blessed to have a team of skilled photographers so that on your wedding day you will have it all covered!
How much do you cost?
- Each and every wedding is unique, and so should your wedding coverage be as well.
- During our initial call and throughout your planning process we will discuss your needs, loves, and desires for your wedding and pick out the amount of coverage best suited for your day.
- Most couples invest around $9,500 on photo and video with us and book around 10 hours total including their engagement session.
- Our investments start off at 4,000 for weddings and $1600 for elopements
How far in advance should I book a wedding photographer?
Many in-demand wedding photographers book weddings over a year out, which is what we typically do. As it gets closer to your wedding date, it will be harder to book your first-choice photographer (and all other vendors, for that fact.) If you wait to book, You may also wind up paying more for vendors since they may have to work you into their schedules.
Do you have liability insurance and do most photographers?
YES! We carry a 2 million dollar policy (most venues require proof and minimum of 1 million.) We HIGHLY SUGGEST that you check your vendors’ REGISTRATION STATUS with the state to avoid any issues with venues.
